Abstract::: The princely state of Kuch Behar has a glorious past of the trade and commercial activity from the past to present, as it is an agricultural belt of the North-Eastern part of India. The construction of roads, introduction of the railways under Maharaja Nripendra Narayan and others have given a definite shape to the economic development of this area. The self-sufficient village economy, Kuch-Kamrup, Kuch-Bhutan contact, presence of marowari community along with native merchants shaped the demand of economic development of the concerned area. After Independence, the merged-up policy of Kuch Behar as Cooch Behar district of West Bengal, establishment of Chakchaka Industrial Complex, reopening of flight, development of agriculture base handicraft industries like jute, tobacco and Indo-Bangladesh trade and commerce has given a new economic phenomenon in the concerned area.
