Abstract:: Memorial inscriptions are an important genre of epigraph that is inscribed on a
memorial honoring deceased persons in India. These memorials can be divided into three main
groups: Hero stones, Sati stones, and Nisidhis. The undivided Kalahandi is located in the southwestern part of Odisha. Kalahandi truly boasts a rich cultural heritage in the realm of art. Since
the prehistoric era, when art and architecture flourished here, Kalahandi has been recognized as
a center of human artistic endeavor.The present paper focused to highlight the inscribed hero
stones found from the undivided Kalahandi district. These have significant political significance
in history and reveal the military and socio-religious aspects of the region.
