Abstract: The tribal communities of North Bengal, notably Oraon, Munda, and Santhal, have historically remained economically and politically marginalized. Their livelihood has long depended on agriculture land and tea plantations, mostly in remote areas far from urban centers. With the expansion of British rule, the region underwent major political and economic transformations, drawing these communities into the colonial economy through their incorporation into tea plantations and agrarian tracts. This study examines the economic conditions and political experiences of these communities within the broad historical context of colonial Terai and Dooars of North Bengal.
