Abstract::The present work attempts a detailed study of the Sidol is the traditional dish of the Surjapuri
Rajbanshis in the Uttar Dinajpur district with special reference to the Islampur Subdivision. It is known
that, the Sidol is the emotion of the Surjapuri Rajbanshis. It’s not only an item of food but it’s a festival of
making Sidol. Although the Rajbanshis living in north east India and the Surjapuri Rajbanshis living in
the Islampur Subdivision have similar origin, yet linguistic and cultural differences can be observed. The
Rajbanshis here like to introduce themselves as ‘Surjapuri Kshatriya Rajbanshi’. The term ‘Surjapuri’ has
been associated with them for Positional and Linguistic reasons. Some traditional dishes can be observed
among them. Surjapuri Rajbanshis are especially known for those traditional dishes. Some traditional
dishes(Sidol, Sukti) of Surjapuri Rajbanshis are also offered as offering to deity or demonic powers. Some
of the traditional and favourite dishes of them are- Pelki, Sukati, Sukti, Amsi, Snail, young goat meat etc.
