Abstract::Religion has played an important role in Indian life since ancient times; India is a society
where religion is the center of life. With a very ancient history, there has been a lot of thinking,
inquiring and experimenting with religion in India. As a result of these thoughts and inquisitiveness,
it can be observed that many religions and sects have arisen in India. The development of religions
like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Charvaka etc. can be seen. The sentiments, customs and ideas of
these religions are different and from time to time there have been changes and developments in
them. Various aspects of the development of religion in ancient India are described in this chapter.
